PUPDATE: Morgan

Meet Morgan - Our Little Cutie

I remember which aisle at the grocery store I was in when I got the call that a dog had been rescued and needed a home. It just happened that my three children had begun the full court press to get a dog about a month prior and thus far I had successfully dodged the fulfillment of their pathetic and mournful pleading. : )

I was sure I would continue to dash their desires as I shopped for shampoo and chardonnay and was told that “Morgan” was a pit-bull mix.  Never having had a dog of this breed but thinking that I certainly knew a thing or two about it, with much thanks to our media stories about some of them rather than their bad owners, I was prepared to thank Shannon and Stana for their confidence in me and move to the produce section.

But then Shannon sent me a picture…and a text…and told me she had already fallen in love with him and asked would I just “foster” him for a week…No obligation…

So I did what any strong and confident and consistent parent would do…I caved.  And prepared myself to be really happy for my kids, but perhaps crabby about the hair and the dirty paws and the accidents and work involved, etc.

Then I met Morgan…and honest to God he smiled at me, and continues to smile almost every time I say his name or see him that first time in the morning. That was almost five months ago and we, all of us, cannot imagine our family without him.

We all agree that we never really gave much thought to a dog’s capacity for being “grateful” but Morgan is so clearly and loyal and full of gratitude…and so are we.

About the hair and the paws and the work?  And the shampoo?  I put him right in the shower with me and shampooed us both, but the chardonnay was just for me!
